We are excited to announce that Thalia Castro was chosen to receive the Presidential Service award by the Corporation for National and Community Service in appreciation for her commitment to strengthen our nation and communities through volunteer service.
As President Obama stated "Your volunteer service demonstrates the kind of commitment to your community that moves America a step closer to its great promise. Individuals, the private sector, and government must combine efforts to make a real and lasting change so that each person has the opportunity to fulfill his or her potential".
Thalia Castro demonstrated dedication in assisting those in need. She gave of her time and went above and beyond to help those who could not help themselves.
Thalia was nominated to receive this award by the Joshua's Heart Foundation Jr. Advisory Board. Thalia has worked in varying capacities, on the Joshua's Heart Foundation Jr. Advisory Board, and by way of volunteering her time to the communities which the foundation serves. She has also participated in service with several other organizations in Miami, some of which have partnered with Joshua's Heart via community outreach programs. Thalia brought the mission and service of the Joshua's Heart Foundation to STA this winter. Joshua's Heart works to provide food and necessities to the homeless communities in Miami. Thalia collected thousands of canned goods, non-perishable items, and hygiene products from the STA student body.
Thalia Castro was awarded the Gold Presidential Award as well as the Congressional Award for Service, both of which were presented by Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen on April 22, 2017 in celebration of National Volunteer Week.
