STA Best Buddies are busy in the community, making a difference!
The STA chapter of Best Buddies International partners with children of all ages at the Broward Children's Center in Ft. Lauderdale. Club members are hitting the ground running this year - literally and figuratively!
November 2nd, students participated in the Miles For Smiles: 2019 Walk With Courage, a once/year opportunity to serve the special needs infants, children, and young adults at Broward Children's Center. Our St. Thomas Volunteers helped in a variety of ways: Set-up and clean-up; pushing the wheel chairs of our friends; and handing out water. For more pictures from this event click here!
Chapter Moderator, Mrs. Mary-Kate O'Mara said, "We have also been busy and creative decorating our cars for Trunk-or-Treat at BCC. We set up our seven cars in the BCC parking lot along with other center volunteers and the local firemen and the kids came to trick-or-treat in the parking lot--it's much easier for those in wheelchairs and a nice place to socialize. We had "haunted cars," Muppet-Monster cars (with the trunk as a giant mouth), a Frozen car, and an STA rally car. By the end of the day, it looked a lot like a carnival."Upcoming events include visits to the Broward Children's Center and the 2nd Annual Christmas Karoke Social on December 5th from 4-6 p.m, all proceeds go to improve facilities at the Broward Children's Center and provide care for our Buddies!
