2019 Graduation Honors Requirements

Class of 2019--Valedictorian and Salutatorian

The Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the graduating class are determined at the end of the third quarter marking period of the Senior year by the highest weighted cumulative average and by completion of all credit requirements.

The GPA for Valedictorian/Salutatorian will be computed using grades from courses taken at STA either during the school year or during a summer session--including the summer session prior to their freshman year. In addition, this includes any administratively-approved online course.

Courses taken at middle schools will be posted on the transcript but will be bracketed and not included in the GPA.

A student must have been in attendance at St. Thomas Aquinas High School from the beginning of the Sophomore year (first day) and have an exemplary disciplinary and attendance record to be considered.

Class of 2019--Summa cum Laude Recognition

Summa cum Laude recognition is given at graduation to those students whose weighted G.P.A. is 5.0 or higher at the end of the third quarter grading period of the Senior year.

The GPA calculation for the purposes of awarding the Summa Cum Laude sash for graduation is based on any and all classes taken on the STA campus, including before and after school classes, Dual Enrollment classes, and Summer School Institute classes--including the summer session prior to their freshman year. In addition, this includes any administratively-approved online course.

Courses taken at middle schools will be posted on the transcript but will be bracketed and not included in the GPA.
