Rev Alexander Rivera
Alexander Rivera, Class of 2006, heard the call to serve at a very early age. Born with a congenital heart disease, Alex thought his path to serve others would go through medicine. But the appeal to serve through the priesthood became his passion, and on Saturday, May 13, 2017, Alexander Rivera received the Sacrament of Holy Orders.
Alex excelled as a student here at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. His AP American History teacher and National Honor Society advisor, Mrs. Moran, said of Alex, “Seldom in my career have I encountered a student whose great intellect is rivaled by his good heart, kind deeds, and generous spirit.” His kindness and thoughtful nature permeated his words and his actions. While an STA student, Alex said, “The purpose of humankind is to spread the light of God’s love through our relationships and those around us.”
Alex joined the choir in his senior year and wished he had started singing sooner; music and singing have since shaped his approach to his new life as a Man of the Cloth. While in the seminary, Alex learned to use his voice in prayer, preaching, and his interaction with his colleagues in ministry and with his parishioners.
